About The Pirate Castle

pirates The Pirate Castle is the home of the Pirate Club, a voluntary organisation and a registered charity. It is reliant on volunteer help and on donations from individuals, businesses and trusts. The club has many friends and has earned much goodwill over the 40 years that it has been going. The Viscount St Davids, whose ideas and philosophy have inspired the club since then, founded the club back in 1966. Over the years many thousands of London's girls and boys have learnt to boat on the canal in Camden Town.

CLUB MEMBERS

We currently have just under 100 members on our books. They mostly live very nearby in the housing estates over the canal from us. Of that number, approximately one third are girls and two-thirds boys. Camden Town is a very cosmopolitan area and the majority of our membership is between 10 aqnd 14 years of age. The name "pirate" suits them pretty well.

kayaking CLUB ACTIVITIES

The Pirate Club is mainly all about boats and the water. We sometimes do other things but boating remains our core activity. The club owns a variety of boats and these include kayaks, coracles, rowing boats, canoes, rescue boats and even two full-length community narrowboats.

While most of our boating is just for fun, we are keen to develop our members' skills and to give them some qualifications.
