WANTED
NARROWBOAT SKIPPERS
Outgoing individuals needed for training in taking groups on the London canals
This is a great opportunity for people to become involved in a stimulating and rewarding canal-based project. Our course covers the many and varied aspects of narrowboat handling such as steering, lockwork, maintenance and good boating practice. It covers safety in depth as well as group management. You will gain hands-on experience on our two narrowboats with a Qualified Trainer, so that you can safely and confidently navigate the London canals with groups of up to twelve people.

No previous experience is neccessary for thorough training to a skilled level, however an approachable manner, responsible attitude and confident approach are essential.

Individuals with previous boating experience are especially welcome.
Supporting the Narrowboats...
Our two narrowboats are busy throughout the year, and require high levels of care and staffing, not only whilst out on trips but also when moored back home by the Pirate Castle's bankside.
If standing out in the wet, pushing lock gates, clearing propellors and guiding boats with amazing skill is not quite your cup-of-tea, the narrowboats give rise to many other more land-bound jobs such as marketing our trips, adminisering bookings and cleaning the boats between voyages. We can offer very rewarding work for people with a little time to give and virtually any skill.

...and in the Castle
As the Castle becomes busier so too does the club's need for help with all aspects of its daily operation. Not only do we always need assistance keeping the premises clean and well maintained, but also with administration in other aspects. If you have an aptitude for fundraising, organising activities or promoting and developing the club, you could find volunteering here to be stimulating, challenging and very fulfilling.
